Mr. Hall.
The Executive Committee of the Inter-University Council, after discussion with Dr. Ride, approved the proposals from the University of Hong Kong for the use of the two Capital grants, totalling £500,000. The next formal stage is to obtain the views of the Chairman of the Colonial University Grants Advisory Committee, Sir Hector Hetherington, who has been authorised by his Committee to act in this matter on their behalf. I have therefore written to
Sir Hector Hetherington, and will report his views as soon as I receive them.
In the meantime, I agree that it would be useful to cable to Hong Kong to ask if they are agreeable to further action being taken in London on the plans brought back by Dr. Ride, without waiting for the copies to arrive through official channels.
